As Black women, as survivors of abuse, trauma, or emotional neglect, we have to forgive ourselves for wanting love.

We have to forgive ourselves for wanting to love.

We have to forgive ourselves for loving and being  loved imperfectly, in an imperfect world.forgiveself.jpg

We have to forgive ourselves for not always being easy to love, and for choosing to express love to those who may not want or know how  to accept it.

We have to forgive ourselves for wanting companionship on a journey that is often taxing.

We have to forgive ourselves for desiring and wanting to be desired.

We have to forgive ourselves for being excited when we are hopeful, and hurt when we are disappointed.

We have to allow ourselves to love and be loved, even when it is imperfect.

We have to allow ourselves to be easy and difficult to love.

We have to allow ourselves to love easy, and love hard.

We have to allow ourselves to learn what love is, through trial and error.

We have to allow ourselves to desire and be desired.

We have to allow ourselves to trust & be vulnerable, just as we have to allow ourselves to be guarded and protective of our hearts when necessary.

We have to allow ourselves to be imperfect, human, and resilient.

We have to learn to love ourselves best, not because no one else will, but so we will recognize love when it shows up.

We have to learn how heal ourselves, so we won’t look to others to fix the things that are broken inside of us.

So today, I forgive myself for wanting to love and be loved.  I allow myself to be loving and be loved.  I allow myself to heal.
